Job description
Job responsibilities
We are a forward thinking department with a real emphasis on staff development and training.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a supportive team and learn valuable new skills in an exciting and developing specialism for occupational therapist. You will directly support the delivery of therapy to patients, manage your own caseload, engage in multi-disciplinary discussions and goal setting to achieve the best outcomes for a diverse and complex patient population, alongside day to day team leadership and service planning.
It is an exciting time to be part of the Critical Care OT community with the recent launch of the Intensive Care Society OT Pillar which aims to aid development and progression of OTs in this field clinically, managerially, educationally and from a research perspective. Occupational therapy is still an emerging area in many critical care units across the United Kingdom. Therefore, role promotion, as well as best practice service provision, are key focus areas for the service.
As such, the role encompasses development of and promotion of the role of the Occupational Therapist within Critical Care including service development projects and outcome reporting. You will also be involved with the auditing of the service against local and national standards such as the Guidelines for Provision of Intensive Care Services in close partnership with the other AHP team clinical leads. This also includes participation within the Lancashire and South Cumbria Critical Care Network to support best practices across the region, including participation in an OT peer support group with clinicians from Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and East Lancashire Hospitals NHS. Considering the infancy of OTs working in critical care and the support available, direct experience within critical care is desired but not essential.
Our therapy team promotes a positive and supportive culture for all our staff to learn and grow as individuals and as a team. We will provide you with in-house training to gain specialist skills to work with patients in the critical care setting. At Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust there is an established training programme for all mandatory clinical skills, in-house leadership programmes and potential for wider learning opportunities. You will receive regular supervision from the Professional Lead Occupational Therapist, to help support your personal and professional development.
You will be supported in the development of your professional and managerial skills and enjoy the benefits of working within a large occupational therapy team with multiple specialties. Active involvement in training and development of self and others is a key requirement in both meeting personal continuing professional development objectives and in providing expertise and delivery of staff training programmes within Core Therapies and the Trust. As a Clinical Lead, you will work closely with a very supportive and proactive, professional leadership team, with regular supervision and will be supported to develop as a leader.
The organisation, clinical management structure and culture provide a supported work environment where you can develop your skills and knowledge and play a key role in the delivery of high quality health care. We have a dedicated Health Academy and learning and development of staff within the trust is very much encouraged and supported
