The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the Departments teaching programme and considerable importance is attached to the support of our junior medical staff. The Directorate provides significant undergraduate teaching and the medical students have voted them the Best Clinical Placement for many years in a row. There are ample opportunities to take part in local and national research trials.

It is essential that the applicant be committed to his or her own continuing medical education and professional development.

The successful candidate will be expected to undergo annual Consultant appraisal and job-planning.

Clinical Responsibilities Undertake a Block Working Pattern on the Critical Care Unit Participate in the Consultant on-call duty rota. Undertake administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients. Promote high professional standards of clinical care of patients and the health and safety of the critical care environment. Maintain continuing education and professional development at least to the requirements of their base Specialty College.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMCs Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

If you are successful in obtaining a position with our Trust which involves working with patients, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check. As a registered body with the DBS, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will conduct the administration of this application on your behalf and the cost will be recovered from your salary, either as a one-off payment or over 3 months. Qualifications

Essential

• Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
• Eligibility to work in the UK
• MBBS or equivalent
• CCT in Intensive Care Medicine or equivalent and be listed on the specialist register or be within 6 months of doing so.
• FICM/European Diploma

Experience

Essential

• Trained Clinical Supervisor with GMC Recognition
• Possesses up-to-date ALS
• Evidence of commitment to further postgraduate education/continuous professional development in Intensive Care Medicine

Desirable

• Trained Educational Supervisor with GMC Recognition
• FICE Accreditation or Similar
• Instructor on one or more advanced life support courses

Management

Essential

• Evidence of Clinical Leadership
• Evidence of commitment to audit and improving clinical practice/service development

Desirable

• Leadership Roles within the NHS

Personal

Essential

• Effective communication skills.
• Good organisation skills.
