Job summary

Do you have a passion for clinical education and improving patient safety? We have a vacancy for a clinical skills tutor within our high-tech simulation centre. We are looking for someone who has excellent clinical skills and a proven passion teaching to join our team delivering simulation training to staff of all levels across the Trust as well as our medical and nursing students.

Main duties of the job

To deliver simulated clinical skills training sessions and assess clinical skills competency to support the development of clinical competence across the range of healthcare professionals, in line with agreed directorate and Trust educational development strategies and priorities.

The role primarily requires the educator to work directly with the Human Patient Simulation team however there will be some cross cover opportunities available to work alongside the Resuscitation Service.

About us

We are a small team based within the simulation centre alongside our resuscitation team. We have a dedicated simulation suite consisting of two high tech simulation rooms and a control room using cutting edge manikins and IT platforms. We have a set of shared values which we work towards, delivering quality education and ensuring we incorporate patient safety and excellent care. We regularly undertake clinical insitu simulation based on identified learning needs and risks.

Job responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, co-ordinate and deliver simulated clinical skills training sessions as directed by Team leader.
  • Develop and achieve IT technical skills to run the human patient simulator manikins from the control room.
  • Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of human patient simulation manikins.
  • Prepare learning environments setting up stock and equipment prior to session start and to clean and store items correctly after use.
  • Provide support as a simulated patient within the scenario.
  • Support the resuscitation service, as required including carrying the cardiac arrest bleep.
  • Maintain clinical credibility by undertaking regular clinical contact shifts.
  • Evaluate learning and development activities for effectiveness and to inform future practice.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, in a manner that is consistent with relevant legislation and local and national policies and procedures.

    Maintain registration and expertise in ownarea of practice, including a current knowledge of wider professional issues and political drivers.

  • Conform to health safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.

  • Contribute to the development of standards and performance

    Implement and monitor quality systems and implement measures to achieve sustained improvement.

  • Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.

Qualifications & Education

Essential

  • oRegistered Nurse /relevant AHP e.g ODP
  • oWilling to work towards a teaching qualification
  • oEvidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Degree or working towards a PG degree in Nursing,/AHP health or related subject
  • Teaching Qualification (7307/Certificate in Education/equivalent)
  • Achievement of Essential of Acute Care/ Advance Nursing Skills course/Post Grad Acute Care Course e.g ALS/PLS/APLS/PHPLS

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • oExperienced senior with excellent clinical skills
  • oCurrent experience working in acute Care environment
  • oCurrent competency in clinical skills of venepuncture/cannulation/ECG, A-E Assessments, Respiratory Assessments etc
  • oFormulation, delivery and evaluation of teaching/ training programmes
  • oExperience of competency assessment
  • oEvidence of actions taken to optimise learning outcomes and experience in the clinical environment

Desirable

  • Experience in acute setting of A&E, MAU, CCU, CRCU, Respiratory medicine, surgery orthopaedics, pre hospital care
  • Support of AIM sessions or equivalent.
  • Mentoring of students
