Job summary

Neurosurgery is introducing a brand new rotational post for staff nurses giving you an opportunity to gain experience on 3 wards, 2A, 2B and 2C with 6 months spent on each ward.

This offers different learning and development opportunities where you will be able to widen your clinical skills and knowledge.

2A is the Neurosurgical High Dependency Ward; 2B offering a variety of nursing both elective and emergency patients and 2C currently is a green elective ward for Neurosurgery.

Main duties of the job

Ward 2A - The Nursing role involves the assessment, care & recovery of patients undergoing a variety of elective & emergency Neurosurgical procedures. Our Nurses are simply the best & the Team works closely with specialist colleagues from the Tracheostomy Ward Round, Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy & Dieticians to ensure our patients receive the best individualized care possible.

Ward 2B is a very busy 27-bedded acute neurosurgical ward treating elective and emergency patients from the North west of England. You will learn all aspects of delivering care pre and post operatively to urgent, emergency and some elective patients with a variety of conditions.

Ward 2C is currently a 'Green' ward caring for patients who are on the Elective Pathway in Neurosurgery. You will gain valuable experience on 2C delivering high quality care to post-operative patients, with opportunities to expand your clinical skills.

Essential

  • RN1, RN2 General Nursing Posts
  • NMC recognised Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards following 18 months commencement in post
  • Evidence of continuing education or development for more experienced Band 5 nurses
  • Appropriate NMC Registration
  • Diploma in Nursing

Desirable

  • Degree

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Awareness of changes within Nursing practice
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates competency during internship
  • Willing to expand clinical role eg IV additives, venepuncture and cannulation
