Job summary

Are you a motivated ED consultant? Why not become part of the dynamic #teamED?Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Emergency Medicine based at the Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital - #teamED. Two posts have been created to add to our numbers to broaden our scope of leading trauma and emergency management for Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Main duties of the job

Applicants should hold or be eligible for Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) within six months of interview. Less than full time contracts can be accommodated and we actively pursue those with dual accreditation to extend our expertise and diversity.

#teamED is very team orientated and we strive to offer senior clinical expertise at the front door meaning that our consultant body is very visible on the shop floor and is expected to provide direct clinical care as an Emergency Physician and Trauma Team Leader. We also provide the role of medical coordinator running the shift, ensuring safety and overviewing the junior clinical staff alongside a senior nurse as the nursing coordinator to make sure the department runs as safely and efficient as possible.

About us

The two Emergency Departments act as a single Emergency Service based on the two sites. The Royal Preston site is designated as the Major Trauma Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria with #team ED leading the multi-disciplinary trauma team. Successful applicants will join and extensive team of 28 Middle Grade doctors (including ST3-6 trainees), 36 Junior Doctors (F2-ST2 and SCF) and 3 FY1 doctors providing comprehensive clinical support to the departments. We are now taking ED trainees at ST3 level for part of their Paediatric EM rotation. There is a dedicated, highly skilled nursing workforce including a team of Nurse Clinicians, Emergency Nurse Practitioners and Physiotherapists providing extensive cover.

#teamED consultant rota is annualised allowing flexibility and options for home-life balance. SPA activity will be written in the contract for simulation training as well as that required for revalidation. Any further SPA would be negotiable to enhance the candidates expertise and interests. There are numerous opportunities to be involved with education at undergraduate level and multi-disciplinary post graduate as well as research and audit. The consultant body is encouraged to take the lead at Directorate level and we have a good reputation for our governance procedures. For those with children both hospital sites have a nursery.
