Job summary
As a Senior Pharmacist at HMP Manchester, you will lead the delivery of comprehensive pharmaceutical care, ensuring safe and effective medication management in accordance with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's (RPS) Medicine Optimisation in Secure Environments (2017) guidelines.
Your role will focus on improving patient outcomes through person-centred care, particularly addressing the complex needs of a prison population, including chronic conditions and mental health.
You will manage the pharmacy team, which include an inhouse dispensary and work closely with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to ensure best practices in prescribing and medication safety. This is an opportunity to contribute to health improvement strategies within the secure environment of HMP Manchester while adhering to the principles of medicines optimisation.
In addition to your clinical and managerial responsibilities, you will play a key role in the development of health promotion initiatives and preventive care programs within the prison. By working closely with both healthcare and custodial staff, you will help drive interventions that address public health concerns such as communicable diseases.
Main duties of the job
To ensure safe and effective prescribing of medication that is in line with the prison pain formulary and the trust prison formulary.
To carryout medication reviews (including SMRs) for patients and to prescribe/deprescribe as appropriate to ensure that treatment is optimised.
To promote further development of the pharmacist's role within the Trust.
Clinical and operational service improvements to Health and Justice sites.
