Job summary

Trafford Extended Service (TES) has a vacancy for an experienced Assistant Clinical Psychologist to work alongside our established Multi-disciplinary team. The team includes a number of other Assistant Psychologists also, so provides good peer support. Trafford Extended Service (TES) provides an assessment and post-diagnostic service to people with Autism Spectrum Conditions (without Learning Disabilities) and an assessment and treatment service for people with Attention Deficit Hyper-Activity Disorder. TES is part of Manchester central and city wide services which provides integrated mental health and social care services, community-based and in patient.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to undertake a range of activities under the guidance and supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist. These include assessments (primarily those used in the diagnosis of adults with Autism Spectrum Conditions and assessment for ADHD), direct clinical work (including group work), report writing, assisting in projects and data collection. There are opportunities to gain a broad range of experience and to develop clinical and teaching skills.

The successful candidate will work within the Autism Spectrum Diagnostic and ADHD pathways, with qualified staff in their clinical and administrative duties. As the job involves working with patients in a specialist context, essential requirements for the post include: previous Assistant Psychologist experience; experience of working with people with Autism Spectrum Conditions and knowledge of ADHD; a good degree in psychology (upper second-class honours degree or above); a high level of communication skills; capacity to work productively in a demanding environment; and an ability to accept and use supervision appropriately. Desirable qualities include previous experience of work with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities, teaching, training and research evaluation, including the application of statistical packages.
