Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join Wigan Building Attachment and Bonds Support, a Parent-Infant Mental Health Service located within Greater Manchester Mental Health Foundation Trust. Our service works with infants and their parents/carers from pregnancy up to 3 years of age. We are a small supportive multi-disciplinary team who are committed to providing high quality care to infants and their families in Wigan.

We are seeking to recruit an Assistant Psychologist (12 month fixed term contract) to support our team to deliver ahigh-quality parent infant mental health service. Under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist, the post holder will have a variety of tasks including:telephone consultation, direct assessment, psychological assessment, formulation and intervention alongside research and service evaluation for clinical services.

The successful candidate will be passionate about working in this field and have knowledge of working in early years and/or perinatal mental health.

Main duties of the job

Under supervision, the post holder will be expected to assist qualified Clinical Psychologists in implementing psychological interventions. This will include using a variety of assessment procedures to develop a formulation with service users and the staff who care for them, undertaking interventions and evaluating interventions and the service as a whole. In undertaking these duties, the post holder will be expected to communicate sensitive information with service users, carers and families and professionals both verbally and in writing.

The post holder will be expected to assist qualified Clinical Psychologists in undertaking teaching and training. This will include the production of relevant literature and contributing to training initiatives under supervision.

The post holder will also assist clinical psychologists in undertaking clinical research. This will include undertaking literature searches relevant to particular projects and the preparation and presentation of summaries and reports.
