Job summary

The Wigan Specialist Community Mental Health Team (SCMHT) are looking to welcome a Senior Mental Health Practitioner (Band 6) to the Assessment and Duty function in the team.

These posts follow on from our first successful round of recruitment as part of our Community Transformation Plan and implementation of the streaming model of care in the SCMHT.

If you are passionate about supporting people and want to progress into a senior position where you can enhance your clinical skills in assessment and risk management, then we would like to hear from you.

This role will involve screening and assessing new patients referred to the SCMHT to collaboratively discuss an appropriate treatment plan to meet the patient's needs. This could include signposting to other services or supporting access to care and treatment provided by the SCMHT. This role also involves supporting the duty function of the assessment service to provide consultation and advice to referrers, patients and carers.

These posts are full-time positions (37.5 hours) and the working hours will be 8am - 8pm 7 days a week. We also encourage applications from staff wanting to work part time hours. Flexible working can be discussed. The post is based at Claire House in Wigan. The post holder will be expected to travel across the Borough to attend satellite clinics across Wigan and Leigh.

Main duties of the job

The SCMHT provides care, treatment and support to adults with significant mental health needs, living in Wigan and Leigh.

The Senior Mental Health Practitioners will screen new referrals into the service and provide assessment and advice to patients and referrers, signposting to appropriate services to meet the patients needs. You would also be involved in managing duty calls into the SCMHT from professionals, patients and carers.

This role does not involve holding a caseload or care co-ordination.

The post holder will be supported by a knowledgeable and supportive team of Band 6 clinicians, and receive direct supervision from the Assessment and Duty Stream Lead (Band 7), Clinical Lead (Band 7) and Clinical Team Manager (Band 7). Reflective practice is also offered to all our Assessment and Duty Team staff due to the unique nature of this role.

While experience would be desirable, we will consider supporting preceptors at Band 5 level to meet a number of competencies to achieve a substantive band 6 over a 12 month period.

Staff wellbeing and development is paramount - full supernumerary status will be provided to support induction to the team for the first 4 weeks in post. Your skills and development opportunities will be supported as part of your induction process and reviewed regularly during line management supervision and an annual appraisal.
