Job summary

The healthcare team HMP Garth are looking to recruit a qualified general nurse to join us. We are looking to appoint someone who is motivated, resilient and enthusiastic about providing an excellent healthcare service.

HMP Garth is a male prison, housing approximately 820 men. The prisons holds offenders, who have committed a range of offences, with varying sentence lengths.

We work within a full multidisciplinary team, including primary care nurses, GPs, mental health nurses, physiotherapists and psychiatrists to name a few. We also work closely with many others, including prison officers, substance misuse practitioners and education staff in order to ensure a holistic approach to our patients' care.

We provide care for patients with a vast range of needs, so this is an excellent opportunity for applicants who are wanting to develop their knowledge and skills. As a nurse within the team, you may be caring for someone with minor ailments, long term conditions, terminal illnesses and those requiring emergency care.

We have a strong focus on supporting and developing our staff, so there are opportunities for further training, supervision and development opportunities. The service operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be part of the healthcare team at HMP garth providing care to men in custody with a variety health needs.

The post holder will be responsible for leading on the delivery of all national screening, immunisation, and vaccination programmes to the population of HM Prison Garth.

The post holder will be responsible for providing sexual health and blood borne virus (BBV)screening and advice to the population of HMP Garth.

Working with staff from all healthcare disciplines you will ensure that they have the necessaryskills and training to meet the national targets and performance indicators set by commissioners and NHS England.

The post holder will be responsible for developing plans of care for patients with chronic wounds and assisting the wider healthcare team in the management of these.

The post holder will promote health services within the establishment by delivering the Health Promotion plan and linking in with the wider team to deliver health promotion and lifestyle advice for all patients.
