Job summary

GMMH provide primary and secondary mental and physical health care we are looking to appoint a band 6 RNLD to oversee the learning disability element of the service at HMP Styal.

The successful applicant will be expected to carry out direct clinical work with a variety of service users. The successful applicant is also expected to act in a supervisory capacity, providing both training, support and advice to clinical staff.

The post holder will ensure that the work for the range of services is well planned with full involvement of the prison, and that all team members have a good understanding of the delivery of the service and their role within this.

This exciting opportunity will allow the successful applicant to work similarly to a community LD nurse with the added interest of supporting forensic risks. The applicant will be able to work autonomously within a wider secondary care team. This allows successful clinician an opportunity to develop their role within the local establishment and operate under their own clinical flare.

The service spans a 7 day service with the flexibility to discuss shifts at interview. There is an excellent allocated amount of annual leave and bank holidays; with the bonus of being able to purchase additional annual leave.

Working on site allows you free access to the gymnasiums, spacious grounds to access and a free large car park.

Main duties of the job

  • Assess, develop and implement care packages for service users within the framework of the CPA
  • To manage a defined caseload of complex and challenging service users.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based interventions in the management of service users with identified/ suspected learning disabilities.
  • Ensure clinical effectiveness in working with patients, including people who disengage from services, by facilitating engagement and therapeutic co-operation
  • To maintain an up to date LD register, ensuring the completion of annual health checks.
  • To provide training and advice for all staff
  • To understand and adhere to local safeguarding policies
  • Work with members of statutory and voluntary agencies to provide appropriate care to meet the assessed nursing needs of prisoners
  • To attend and contribute to ACCT reviews for service users under the care of the service.
  • When directed, participate in MAPPA meetings and Parole hearings to offer clinical expertise and working knowledge
  • To participate in wider agency forums to offer collaborative working for individuals with neuro-developmental conditions and professionally discuss risk management.
  • To ensure the development of discharge/ release plans for those requiring ongoing care from services within other prisons/ community.
  • To be accountable for the assessment of care needs, risk assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of treatment packages and ensure that reviews take place within the Trust CPA policy.
