Job summary

We are seeking to recruit a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our team at Park House Hospital, North Manchester. Park House is an adult inpatient mental health unit which provides inpatient care to services users with acute and complex mental health needs. The post holder will work proactively as a member of a multidisciplinary team on the acute inpatient wards for clients with complex mental and physical health needs providing an Occupational Therapy Service. They will work with the multidisciplinary team to create and maintain an environment that supports social participation, health promotion and inclusion, with access to resources and facilities required to achieve this. This will include identifying and developing links with other agencies.To be successful in this role you will need good communication skills, be flexible, organised and highly motivated. You will need the ability to build effective working relationships and be able to demonstrate a commitment to client-centred, non-discriminatory practice.

As part of the team be responsible for maintaining stock and the responsible use of petty cash.

To select and apply specialist evidence based occupational therapy assessments for the designated case load, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits.

To assess, plan, prioritize, implement and evaluate occupational therapy interventions to meet service user needs.

To work in collaboration with service users to develop occupational therapy goals as part of the CPA care plan.

To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for clients in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of interventions and client progress.

As part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team offer a unique professional perspective to decision making and care planning.

Contribute the unique occupational therapy perspective to assist the diagnosis of service users.

Enable service users and carers to take an active role in care given.

To promote social inclusion by enabling the service user to reach their maximum potential promoting access to mainstream activities where possible.

To report occupational therapy recommendations to relevant stake holders to inform effective discharge plans in line with the CPA.

Interventions should reflect the service users values, cultural and religious diversity.

Apply theoretical knowledge of psychology, sociology and physical science assessing, planning and implementing interventions.

To apply a recognised model of occupational therapy practice.

To work in a variety of settings including the inpatient service, the service users home and the wider community adhering to the occupational therapy inpatient service lone working protocol.

Will undertake prevention and managing of violence and aggression training (PMVA).

To provide and receive complex, sensitive information ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.

Maintain effective communication with service users, carers and other disciplines adapting communication style as necessary.
