Job summary

he Specialist Psychological Therapy Services lies within the Wigan & Leigh Borough, which is provided by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS trust. The Trust provides specialist services for people with Mental Health needs, Learning Disabilities and Autism, together with a range of other specialist services . The population served in the Wigan & Leigh Borough is approximately 308,000.

The Specialist Psychological Therapy Service (SPTS) is well established team of Clinical Psychologist, Advanced Practitioner, Assistant Psychologists with a Consultant Psychologist leading working across the Borough into multi-agencies services.

The Service provides three dynamic clinical pathways in the areas of Chronic Pain, Autism Diagnostic and Learning Disabilities.

A vacancy has arisen for Principle Clinical Psychologist within the Autism Diagnostic Pathway

Main duties of the job

Offer of highly specialist clinical psychology assessment, formulation and brief intervention within clinical pathway . Working as a key senior clinician within relevant pathway(s), contributing to the wider MDT (including provision of training, supervision, reflective practice, post incident support and consultation where required). Day to day support to the psychology practitioners within the areas cited above.

To be responsible for the systematic provision of highly specialist psychological services for service users and their families/carers suffering primarily from complex psychological problems. To provide services that meet the agreed service priorities consonant with practitioner experience and expertise. Such services to include the development and implementation of highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention strategies including clinical casework, training of other team members and the provision of consultancy work generally for the assurance of quality in the use of psychological methods by other team members. This job description recognises the need to ensure appropriate supervision and professional development as a core theme.

  • Registered Clinical Psychologist or Practitioner Psychologist equivalent with the HCPC Post-graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent for those trained before 1996) as accredited by the BPS

Desirable

  • Training in management/leadership skills

Experience

  • Considerable experience of working as a qualified applied psychologist, including a substantial range of experience within autism and or learning disability services .
  • Considerable experience of working with people with Autistic spectrum conditions.
  • Experience of undertaking Clinical assessments for autism using relevant tests and tools such as the ADOS , DISCO or ADI-R
  • Experience of working with and planning clinical interventions in a relevant service area
  • Experience of teaching and training of trainees, clinical psychologists and/or staff from other professional groups in psychological skills and concepts.
