Job summary

Do you have a passion for working with Older People? Join our team at Woodlands! We have an opportunity for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join a friendly and supportive Inpatient service. We are pleased to be able to offer this post as a role for someone currently working at a band 8a level or as a preceptorship. In this case, we would offer the post as a band 7 preceptorship until the necessary experience and competencies are met within an agreed timeframe, after which the post would move to an 8a.

Successful applicants will be part of a committed and experienced multi-disciplinary team, which values the contribution of Psychology. The Psychology Team at Woodlands includes a Principal Clinical Psychologist, two qualified posts and an assistant psychology role with current vacancies being available due to retirement and movement of assistants. The wider Older People's psychology service across the organisation provides a supportive network of experienced clinicians, with active links with the three local doctoral training courses. Within the wider Older People's psychology service there is expertise around CAT, MBT, Behavioural Family Interventions and EMDR and the provision of psychological training to others as well as strong links with local and national bodies e.g. FPOP and ACP Older Adult Network. As a group we meet twice annually for continuing professional development and opportunities for further training are encouraged and supported.

Main duties of the job

Woodlands Hospital focuses on the assessment and management of older people with complex mental health and/or organic presentations (typically dementia). The Hospital has three wards; two for individuals with dementia and one for older people with mental health difficulties. The postholder will offer individual assessment, formulation and intervention to individuals as well as supporting the implementation of a stepped model of psychological care in inpatient areas through the provision of service development, training, supervision and consultancy.

Applicants will be able to demonstrate experience of or a high level of enthusiasm/commitment to working with older people with or without dementia. Experience of working within multidisciplinary environments will also be an advantage. The post holder will be required to assist with the supervision of junior members of staff (e.g. Support Workers, Assistant Psychologists). The post holder will be required to complete or oversee service audit and evaluation projects and contribute to service development activities such as staff training. Post holders will need to contribute actively to team and multi-disciplinary working, so a high standard of written and verbal communication is required.
