Job summary
The Assistant Practitioner/ Registered Nurse Associate will work within a small, dedicated physical health team across three mental health inpatient wards to deliver high level, quality care and evidence-based interventions to a population of patients at increased risk of developing physical health comorbidities. The team consists of an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, and RGN Physical Health Practitioner has one vacancy for an Assistant Practitioner/ Registered Nurse Associate.
The applicant will be passionate about advocating for parity of esteem in physical and mental health care, and will possess excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
The Assistant Practitioner/ Registered Nurse Associate will be competent in:
- Working in close proximity with mental health service users and their carers.
- Working flexibly and responsively to meet the physical health needs of the service and service users.
- Working collaboratively across a range of disciplines to deliver and embed effective physical health assessment, monitoring and care
- Promoting the physical health of mental health service users.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work across the mixed gender acute unit, female psychiatric intensive care unit and perinatal unit to deliver high quality physical health monitoring and care.
They will:
- Support the 3 wards with assessment of physical health care and completion of the trust's key physical health document, the PHIT tool.
- Work as part of the physical health team to provide health education and promotion through the provision and development of groups and resources.
- Provide guidance from the Physical Health and Wellbeing Policy and role model best practice related to physical health.
- Support the wards to adhere to best practice in infection control.
- Support with complex care planning under the leadership of the physical healthcare practitioner and liaise with other health professionals and outside agencies on behalf of the inpatient teams.
- Support the ward with physical health monitoring tasks, i.e. swabs, blood tests, NEWS 2, ECGs.
- Assist with training and education to staff on physical health related skills and competencies. The team will facilitate, for example, NEWS 2 training, and provide teaching sessions on any identified gaps in nursing knowledge.
- Complete audits of aspects of care related to physical health, i.e. NEWS 2, rapid tranquillisation and care planning.
- Support the management team with any matters arising related to physical health which require urgent attention, i.e. vaccination programmes.
