Job summary

An exciting opportunity for a Team manager to join the Bolton single point of access service.

The post holder will provide clinical input and operational management to the team. This involves the day to day running of the team, clinical leadership to and line management, supervision and appraisal of the clinical staff.

The role also involves developing and maintaining working relationships with other services including both statutory and non-statutory with particular focus to key stakeholders and urgent care services within GMMH.

The post holder will also be required to manage the development of the SPOA team under direction of the Operational Manager. This includes improving, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the performance of the service in the context of challenging national and local Key Performance Indicators, and an evolving commissioning environment. The post holder will ensure the most cost effective use of resources.

Main duties of the job

Bolton Single Point of Access is in a position to offer a full time post for a team manager. This is to lead an established team meet the demands of mental health referrals into Bolton services.

Part of this development is to meetthe drivetowards achieving increased access rates for talking therapies (under the IAPT agenda) for the people of Bolton.

We are looking for a Team manager who is enthusiastic, experienced and who is able to work under their own initiative in a busy team.

Management

  • Demonstrate day to day leadership to staff within the Single Point of Access team and organise the timely, effective and equitable allocation of work to team members.
  • To be responsible for the maintenance of good standards of professional practice, Codes of Conduct, ethical frameworks and all other advisory guidance.
  • Undertake, at the direction of the Operational Manager, personnel management including monitoring of annual leave, staff activity, staff performance, disciplinary proceedings, grievance, sickness and take prompt action to manage these in accordance with the policies and procedures which apply to the staff groups within the post-holders remit.
  • Maintain achievable workloads and ensure all patients require high quality response / actions to their needs.
  • To contribute, under the direction of the Operational Manager, to the development of policies, systems and procedures as appropriate within Bolton Single Point of Access team.
  • To develop and maintain timely, effective, appropriate and equitable triage and signposting of referrals or other workload within the team.
  • To be responsible for the SPOA team contribution towards the PCPTS meeting national and local Key Performance Indicators using the most up-to-date electronic database systems available to the service.
  • To provide line management supervision to all staff within the SPOA team in order to optimise the effectiveness and sustainability of individuals, the team and the service.
  • To ensure that all members of the team receive adequate and appropriate supervision and support, by identifying and working with them, and the Operational Manager, on any development and training needs.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the timely implementation of the Trusts appraisal process (IPDR) across the services.
  • To contribute to the development and organisation of integrated services with partner providers and other agencies in the locality.
  • To ensure effective liaison with other service providers, both within the Directorate and other agencies, through both formal and informal mechanisms.
  • To contribute to the identification of unmet needs in planning and implementation of service development.
  • Provide any reports and information requested by the post-holders line manager, or which may be routinely required by the service. These may include reports relating to safeguarding, serious incidents or complaints etc.
  • To understand, utilise and promote amongst staff the use of Trust-wide and Directorate recording and IT systems, including the recording and gathering of data relating to Key Performance Indicators, as required.
  • Ensure that all required records and statistics for the post holders range of responsibility kept as required for performance management and clinical governance of the service.
  • To assist the management team / cover as required.
  • Liaise when required to do so with other mental health services in Bolton and statutory and non-statutory agencies in Bolton.
  • Provide any verbal and written reports and information which are requested by the post-holders line manager, or which may be routinely required by the service as required, act for the line manager and other managers in their temporary absence.
  • Implement, or when required develop, quality assurance systems to monitor and audit standards.
  • To be responsible for the prompt recruitment and induction of new staff to posts within the team, according to relevant procedures.
  • The post-holder will receive management supervision from the Operational Manager.

Clinical duties

  • Have delegated responsibility for the clinical performance of the staff. This involves line management of Mental Health Practitioners.
  • Participate in the Single Point of Access for accepting and screening mental health referrals and signposting onward.
  • Giving specialist advice to G.Ps and other referrers, making decisions based on level of need, urgency and risk.
  • Provide clinical specialist advice to other professionals
  • To communicate directly with patients, carers/relatives, and other healthcare professionals complex and potentially emotive information regarding the patients condition, treatment and prognosis, subject to ethical boundaries of confidentiality.
  • Assessment and intervention of clients in respect of mental health needs which is mainly via telephone but may be face to face.
  • Potentially manage a small caseload of clients
  • Undertake assessments including risk assessment and risk management and any other assessments that may required by the service.
  • Work unaccompanied as a lone worker in accordance with health and safety requirements when required
  • Maintain appropriate, up-to-date, written and electronic records and activity data in accordance with Professional and Trust standards
