An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical / counselling psychologist with an interest in working with older people to join a friendly and supportive primary care team. The Salford Older Adult Primary Care Psychological Therapies Service is a specialist service providing psychological therapies and counselling to older people across Salford.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to provide a high quality psychology service to older people presenting with a range of psychological difficulties. The successful candidate will demonstrate prior experience and interest in working with older people, have knowledge of physical and cognitive processes of ageing and be passionate about promoting the mental health needs of older people.
The service has strong links with local Clinical Psychology Training Programs and regularly provides clinical placements to Trainees. We also have good links with other later life practitioners across the wider Trust footprint.
We are pleased to offer this post as an 8a for suitably experienced candidates or as a preceptorship post, welcoming applications from trainee clinical psychologists due to qualify in September or those recently qualified. As a preceptorship post this would be offered at a band 7 until the necessary skills and competencies within an agreed timeframe are met, upon which the post would move to an 8a.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide a high quality psychology provision to older people across Salford. They will be responsible for providing psychological assessments, formulation and interventions to older people presenting with a range of psychological difficulties. This work will usually be on an individual basis but will also require working with families and carers and there will be opportunities for group work.
They will work in a variety of settings including home visits, care settings and community gateway centres and where appropriate provide telephone/virtual therapy. They will be required to liaise with other primary care and secondary mental health services, social services and non-statutory agencies in order to ensure the needs of the client are met.
The post holder will be involved in service development and evaluation. There will be opportunity to facilitate groups, contribute to staff training and provide clinical supervision to junior members of the team . As a band 8a, you will also offer clinical placements to trainee clinical psychologists.
The post involves community work and home visiting, so applicants must be able to demonstrate ability/offer a strategy to undertake visits safely and efficiently.
