Health and Justice Psychology and Psychological Therapies Department

We are hugely excited to offer the opportunity for a practitioner psychologist or accredited senior psychological therapist to work within the recently developed Health and Justice Psychology Department, part of the Specialist Service Care Group within GMMH. The post holder will be based at HMP Manchester and will be interested in the complex needs of offenders and the development of trauma informed care.

The specifics of the role will vary dependent on the needs of the clients but will include the development of highly specialised assessment, formulation, intervention planning and therapy. The post holder would also be expected to work with a range of stakeholders to support a trauma informed understanding of the complex and wide ranging mental health and emotional well-being difficulties experienced by this client group. As such the post holder would be required to build strong working relationships with HMPPS partners to provide formulation driven understanding of service-user presentation in order to support psychologically driven care and support.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work as a core member of the multi-disciplinary mental health in-reach team (MHIT). The team comprises of multi-disciplinary professional's, including mental health nursing, psychiatry, psychology, and psychological well-being practitioners.

The post holder would be expected to work with a caseload of clients to provide detailed assessment, formulations, interventions and therapy. Additionally, the successful candidate would also be expected to provide high-quality psychological advice and support not only to the mental health team but the wider HMPPS staff and stakeholders and with forensic psychology colleagues.

There is also opportunity to support other psychological projects across the service, including working into the Specialist Intervention Unit and contributing to the wider departmental priorities.

The post holder would also be expected to work closely with other psychologists and psychological practitioner within the department who are currently working within HMP Styal, Garth, Wymott, Risley, Hindley and New Hall in order to further support the development of the PWP and Assistant psychology provision.
