An exciting opportunity to be involved in ground-breaking research to tackle inequalities in psychosis care for Black and Mixed heritage people within Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) in partnership with The University of Manchester.
The post holder will be a postgraduate/post-doctoral researcher whose primary role will involve establishing a project to evaluate the feasibility of delivering Culturally-adapted Family Intervention (CaFI) with people of Sub-Saharan African and Caribbean origin in social care settings.
The CaFI study is a national Randomised Control Trial (RCT) to evaluate the clinical and cost-effectiveness of implementing culturally informed psychological care with a population that experiences high rates of diagnosis coupled with sub-optimal care. Currently, little is known about delivering psychosocial interventions such as family therapy in social care settings. The aim of this study is to address this knowledge gap by undertaking exploratory work within Greater Manchester.
Main duties of the job
The post holder must be able to take significant responsibility for planning and implementation of specific elements of the research activities. Banding reflects the level of autonomy, knowledge, skills, and experience needed. The postholder will have effective communication and management skills.
Expertise in mixed methods research, including experience in conducting interviews and coding qualitative data is essential. The RA will therefore need knowledge and experience in this area and associated quantitative research methods skills. The successful candidate will also be able to conduct systematic and other literature reviews to extract pertinent information that informs the current research and grant writing.
Given the nature and context of the study, the RA will have experience of facilitating 'Expert by Experience' input into all aspects of our work, including research design, data collection, analysis, and dissemination.
