Job summary

The North Manchester Division of GMMH are looking for a full time Senior Practitioner for Personality Disorder and Complex Emotional Needs, to enhance the experience of people with this presentation and to support teams to deliver effective, evidence based and consistent care.

Based at Park House, the successful applicant will offer clinical consultation, advice and support to the inpatient multi-disciplinary teams, the Mental Health Liaison Team, Home Based Treatment Team , Community Mental Health Teams and other services, when admission is considered, during admission and when planning discharge.

The successful applicant will use their clinical skills and knowledge to provide specialist assessment, formulation and interventions for people presenting with personality disorder or complex emotional needs, working collaboratively with an identified caseload and supporting the multi-disciplinary team to develop effective care, safety, distress and risk management plans.

Additionally, the successful applicant will collaborate with colleagues and experts by experience to deliver training to local services within the division on the areas of personality disorder, trauma, and complex emotional and relational needs as appropriate; whilst offering clinical leadership and supervision to the teams.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will:

Provide clinical leadership, supervision, support and consultation to the inpatient multi-disciplinary teams in order to ensure the support of service users whose difficulties may result in them being given a diagnosis of a personality disorder or who present with complex emotional and relational needs.

Liaise with and support the Inpatient Multi-disciplinary Teams, Community Mental Health Teams, Mental Health Liaison Teams, Home Based Treatment Teams and other services / agencies as required; offering clinical advice and consultation when admission is considered, during an admission and when planning discharge for service users with a diagnosis of a personality disorder or presenting with complex emotional and relational needs.

Use their clinical experience and knowledge to increase the capacity of teams delivering care to meet the needs of this service user group and enhance the experience of service users; supporting teams to deliver safe, evidence based, effective, culturally competent care in a timely manner.

Provide support and specialist assessment / formulation to the inpatient service for identified service users who may have a diagnosis of personality disorder or who present with complex emotional and relational needs.

Work collaboratively with identified service users and the multi-disciplinary team to develop effective care, safety, distress and risk management plans, engaging with carers where possible and appropriate.

Engage with any relevant additional training which supports the role.

Collaborate with other specialist clinicians working with personality disorder and complex emotional and relational needs, to provide specific training to the wider team / services on personality disorder, trauma, emotion regulation and interpersonal difficulty and other areas as appropriate.

Participate in and deliver a high standard of clinical supervision, support and facilitate a supervision group open to all inpatient staff; and offer individual clinical supervision.

Support the psychology team to offer debrief and post incident support to inpatient staff.

Support the service to deliver effective care and treatment by undertaking other duties within the general scope of the role on occasion. This may include the possibility of redeployment in the event of divisional or organisational Business Continuity Planning.

Participate in Bronze on Call and Bronze on Site rotas as required.
