Job summary
The post-holder will work primarily on the Culturally-adapted Family Intervention Project (CaFI). CaFI is a multi-site Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) of a bespoke psychological therapy co-designed with people Sub-Saharan African and Caribbean service users diagnosed with schizophrenia spectrum disorders and their families.
People of African-Caribbean origin, including those of 'Mixed' heritage, are more likely to be diagnosed with schizophrenia than other ethnic groups in the UK. They are also less likely to be offered psychological therapy. National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) highlight a need for culturally-appropriate/informed psychosocial interventions to address inequalities in access, care, and outcomes experienced by people from these backgrounds.
Main duties of the job
The Research Assistant will work alongside the CaFI Research team in the Research & Innovation department. They will contribute towards the day-to-day activities of the trial under the guidance of the Trial Manager and Professor Dawn Edge (Chief Investigator/CI). They will be involved in participant recruitment; data collection, entry, and analysis; writing-up; dissemination and Patient & Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) activities.
Conduct comprehensive literature searches
Synthesise previous/current research evidence
To assist in the implementation of a research project
To undertake recruitment, data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programmes
To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of clients applying self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service users, family members and others involved in the service user's care
Preparation of study materials, such as interview topic guides
