Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust is delighted to be supporting the new role of Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioner (MHWP). We are advertising for full time trainee MHWPs, with the required training course planned to start in September 2022. Over the 12 month training period individuals will attend study at Edge Hill University (in person and remote learning) as well as spending time working clinically in a specified community mental health team. These are exciting roles created by HEE and NHSE/I to support the transformation of community mental health services. Your training will be fully funded, and you will be eligible for a full-time qualified permanent position on completion of the training course. In return, we ask that you commit to staying with us for at least two years after you qualify.
During the 12 months training this role will be paid at 75% of the top of band 5 (as per Annex 21 Agenda for Change Guidance). On completion of training the role will move to the usual band 5 position.
Interviews are expected to be held weeks beginning 11th and 18th July 2022.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work in a defined community mental health team and work within a specific location whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role.
These posts are suitable for graduates (e.g. psychology) and non-graduates, who have the right personal qualities. As a Trainee Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner, you will be expected to work under supervision as part of a community mental health team supporting people to receive the right care and delivering psychologically informed interventions.
During the one-year graduate certificate or postgraduate certificate training, you will, under supervision, develop knowledge and practice skills to employ wellbeing-focused psychologically informed interventions for serious mental health problems for adults individually and in groups, as well as support their families and carers. These interventions may include,
Behavioural Activation and Graded Exposure using the "GOALS" programme
o Problem-solving
o Improving sleep
o Recognising and managing emotions
o Guided self-help for bulimia and binge-eating
o Confidence building
o Support with medicines management
