We have an exciting opportunity for a suitable qualified and experienced Clinical or Forensic Psychologist to join the Greater Manchester Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) team to deliver key aspects of the OPD strategy.
The OPD Strategy is a nationwide programme of services in HMPPS to improve the wellbeing and futures of men, women and young people who have personality difficulties linked to their serious offending behaviour. Psychologists are a vital part of the programme, nurturing understanding and change in the lives of the offenders who participate and the professional practices of the prison and probation staff with whom they are engaged. Psychologically Informed Planned Environments (PIPEs) are a key part of the OPD Strategy.
PIPES are contained environments where staff members have additional training and ongoing support from a dedicated psychologist to develop an increased understanding of their work with the offenders in their care to create an enhanced safe and supportive environment, which can facilitate the development of all those who live and work there, changing lives and prospects for the better.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a suitably qualified and experience clinical or forensic psychologist and will hold a strategic position as Lead Clinician for the PIPE service. They will have a key role in creating and maintaining a healthy psychosocial environment, ensuring the unit adheres to the theoretical principles of the PIPE model.
Those principles underpin the design, delivery and oversight of core components of the PIPE concept, including group work and the management of group dynamics. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of the PIPE concept and to staff development by offering training and support in working with offenders with personality disorder and providing clinical supervision.
The PIPE lead clinician element is 0.8 WTE. The remaining 0.2 WTE is with the Insight Team, part of the OPD strategy. The main task of this element of the role involves offering formulation consultations to Offender Managers alongside specialist probation officers.
