Job summary
This post will be based on Maple Ward, which is an Female Later Life Ward based in North Manchester. You will be working with older adult inpatients who may have complex psychological and/or physical needs, and therefore relevant experience will be important. The work will include assessment of mental state and overall function through observations of participation in both group and individual ward based therapeutic activities, interviews, and more in-depth functional assessments when required.You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and may be required to liaise with various discharge agencies.The post will entail the supervision of more junior staff and students. You will also be involved in service development. You will receive regular supervision and annual appraisal.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team working on a female later life psychiatric ward, utilising an eclectic therapeutic approach in the assessment, treatment and discharge of acute ill patients.
Main duties of the job
- To manage complex needs inpatient acute psychiatric admission ward caseload using evidence based/patient centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions and record all interventions.
- To contribute to a rapid multi-disciplinary assessment of mental state and function.
- To regularly supervise Occupational Therapy students on fieldwork placement.
- To provide leadership for Occupational Therapy Assistant and Activity Worker.
- To abide by the College of Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and the College of Occupational Therapy Professional Standards for OT Practice.
- To develop skills and knowledge through participation in a Professional Development planning to meet the competency framework
- To participate in the planning, development, and evaluation of the O.T. services with the team, holding responsibility for defined forums
