Job summary

The Mother and Baby Unit in Greater Manchester (Andersen Ward) has a multidisciplinary and well-established team providing a range of tailored approaches to meet the mental health needs of woman and their families in the perinatal period.

Our core purpose is to work with expectant mothers and mothers to address their mental health needs and mitigate any impact on the unborn baby and infant.

We aim to improve the health outcomes for mothers with the provision of a timely, integrated, high quality, effective, multi-disciplinary service.

Main duties of the job

You will have the opportunity to undertake initial assessments and direct one to one and group based therapeutic work with women experiencing a wide range of mental health problems.

You will also have opportunity for indirect working, offering supervision, consultation, and training to both colleagues within the MDT and the wider maternity system.

We are keen to recruit people who enjoy working in multi-disciplinary teams and who are creative, adaptable, and responsive to the needs of the service. We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with women and their families and whose values and principles are aligned with the organisation.

The post offers an incredibly supportive team working environment. You will receive clinical and professional supervision and have opportunities to link in with established psychologists working within the perinatal service who meet regularly for ongoing CPD, discussion of clinical and professional issues and invaluable peer support.

There is also opportunity for professional development within a supportive department, with additional training being actively encouraged.

You will observe, and abide by, all relevant professional codes of conduct and practice including those of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).You will be fully registered with the HCPC as a practitioner psychologist as a condition of employment.

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • oProfessional qualification in Clinical Psychology at doctoral level (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
  • oHCPC registration as a qualified Clinical Psychologist

Desirable

  • oAccreditation in a relevant evidence-based parenting programme or training in an intervention relevant to this client group (e.g. mother-infant interaction or video interactive guidance or EMDR or CAT or other perinatal intervention)

  • oExperience of working as a clinical psychologist.
  • oPrevious experience of delivering structured psychological interventions to clients with severe and complex mental health problems.
  • oExperience in risk assessment, formulation and management.
  • oExperience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
  • oExperience of working with a full range of severe mental health problems and across settings including community, outpatient/clinic and/or inpatient settings.
