Job summary

Deputy Ward Manager

Be an active member of the ward management team providing line management and clinical supervision to a defined group of staff, including appraisal and monitoring of clinical practice standards.

Deliver effective clinical leadership to support the staff team, acting as a positive role model in coaching staff members and providing clear direction and support.

The position requires an individual who is able to lead, motivate and manage nurses working as Primary Nurses within a medium or low secure environment.

Main duties of the job

The position requires an individual who is able to lead, motivate and manage nurses working as Primary Nurses within a medium or low secure environment.

As a senior ward nurse, provide support & leadership to registered nurses & ward based staff to engage effectively with MDT members.

The post holder will participate in a rota to ensure senior nurse leadership and operational management of the Service out of hours with the support of the on call rota.

Essential

  • Up to date NMC registration as a first level mental health nurse.
  • Evidence of post registration development.

Desirable

  • A recognised qualification within a clinical intervention.
  • A recognised qualification in mental health nursing.

Experience

Essential

  • Have recent experience of working within and supporting staff to deliver care to patients who are complex and challenging needs in order to demonstrate the required understanding of risk management.
  • Have recent experience of working proactively within a multi disciplinary team.
  • Recent experience of providing managerial and/or clinical supervision to junior staff working with a complex patient group.

Desirable

  • Experience of working within a secure setting
  • Experience of providing mental health care within the prison service.

knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence based care for the patient group.
  • Ability to develop and utilise a range of clinical interventions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with patients and carers.

Desirable

  • Have an in depth knowledge and understanding of relevant clinical interventions to safely provide treatment within a medium or low secure setting.
  • Have an in depth knowledge of relevant risk assessment tools and risk management frameworks to sustain service users' safety.
