Job summary

We are recruiting a Band 7 Clinical or Counselling Psychologists or Psychological therapist. It would be well suited to recent or soon to be qualified Clinical Psychology trainees, current Band 7 psychologists looking to move into early intervention or experienced CBT therapists.

We are a collaborative, multidisciplinary team who aim to provide a values and evidence-based, NICE concordant package of care to our clients.

In line with NICE guidance, our main model is cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis (CBTp), but the complexity of presenting difficulties means that we draw on a number of models in our work. Most of the non-therapy staff in the team are trained in motivational interviewing in recognition of the importance of engagement in Early Intervention and most are trained in behavioural family therapy highlighting the importance we place on working with families and friends of our clients.

We are looking for a someone who has a keen interest in working with this client group and their families and in the EIIP model. The post holder will be involved in assessment of clients referred to the team, will provide psychological therapy and may have the opportunity to provide family interventions. The post holder will work closely with MDT colleagues and offer them consultation in helping support their work with their clients. The post holder will attend team meetings and promote a psychological perspective within the team.

They will see people both in their first episode of psychosis but also those with an at-risk mental state (ARMS), providing a mix of young people presenting with a range of complex and less complex problems.

Carry out specialist psychological assessments to identify individuals considered to be at high risk of developing a serious mental health difficulty (ARMS) using the Comprehensive Assessment of At-Risk Mental States (CAARMS). To utilise CAARMS supervision structures set up within EDIT across GMMH. Carry out specialist assessments to identify individuals with First Episode Psychosis (FEP) using the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS). To provide psychological assessment of clients based on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of psychological data from a variety of sources. This will include use of specific validated self-report measures, rating scales, observation and interview. To formulate clients presenting difficulties, integrate and apply psychological theory to clinical practice. To provide evidence-based psychological therapies (e.g. cognitive behaviour therapy) to clients presenting problems (e.g. voice hearing, paranoia, depression, anxiety). Apply a range of evidence-based cognitive models to clients presenting problems (e.g. psychosis, depression, anxiety disorders) in line with the clients problem list and therapy goals. To carry an independent caseload of clients. To carry a caseload of clients and deliver evidence based psychological assessment and interventions to individuals, families and groups. Monthly caseload data will be monitored in the team and targets set. The post holder will be expected to provide psychological assessments/ interventions in the Trafford Early Intervention Service, on both the Early Detection Intervention and Treatment pathway (EDIT) and Early Intervention for Psychosis pathway (EIPT). In conjunction with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to undertake risk assessment and risk management for all clients, and to provide general advice to other professionals/ services on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.

Essential

  • Doctoral level professional qualification, or equivalent, in Clinical or counselling Psychology and registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Professions' Council
  • A qualification in health care at graduate level in nursing, social work or allied health profession PLUS professional registration (e.g. HCPC, NMC) PLUS post- graduate diploma (or equivalent) in cognitive behaviour therapy.
  • A post-graduate diploma in cognitive behavioural therapy and accreditation with the British Association of Cognitive Behavioural Therapies

Desirable

  • Post-qualification experience of delivering therapy to people experiencing psychosis.
