Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding Maternal Mental Health Service (MMHS) which sits within the overarching Specialist Perinatal Service.

This role is integral in the further development & expansion of the MMHS across Greater Manchester. The post holder will support the service offering psychological interventions to women experiencing moderate/severe or complex emotional distress associated with loss & trauma directly arising from, or related to, the maternity experience.

The post holder will manage a caseload of patients and provide expert clinical knowledge and advanced skills for the management of mental health problems for people experiencing loss & trauma in the perinatal period.

This specialist role will provide psychological assessment, formulation, & evidence-based interventions to support to families across GM. You will work collaboratively with wider healthcare & voluntary services to support the delivery of an integrated perinatal pathway.

In addition, the post holder will coordinate the day-to-day operational delivery of the service maintaining patient safety & improving experience, taking responsibility for the quality of service with a specific emphasis on risk, governance issues, rota management.

Part of this role will require you to participate in the Bronze on Call/Bronze on site rota

This role requires the ability to travel extensively across the GM footprint

Main duties of the job

As part of a highly specialist team you will support the assessment of bi-psychosocial needs, emotional support and interventions to women and families who have experience birth loss and trauma. You will support and maintain the development of integrated pathways and collaborative working with services and organisations that support women within the perinatal period

In addition the post holder will coordinate the day-to-day delivery of effective clinical practice to improve patient safety and experience, taking responsibility for the quality management MMHS with a specific emphasis on risk and governance issues, rota management and departmental training and education.

You will be required to collect, analyse and report data that informs service development and shape the strategic direction of clinical support and interventions offered to women experiencing trauma

In this role, you will be required to deliver training across GM to professionals and service who support the whole pathway approach.

  • Communicate with women and their families in a form and manner consistent with their level of understanding, culture, background and preferred ways of communicating
  • Promote and facilitate an multidisciplinary team to approach to care and treatment.
  • Attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss and screen referrals.
  • Establish integrated pathways within maternity, health visiting, NICU and voluntary sector organisations for example, SPOONS, Finding Rainbows, Dad Matters
  • Collate, analyse and report on information about the quality of service provided to women within the pilot.
  • Promote a service which is trauma informed, inclusive and accessible.
  • Support families to access the MMH service, schedule appointments, have a presence in the clinics and top up with patient centred care in-between formal appointments.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources
  • Lead on writing local protocols and guidance relevant to the service
  • Organise daily work schedule and off duty ensuring an effective skill mix appropriate to patient need.
  • Report and record all incidents and complaints according to the agreed policy, investigating promptly and compassionately
  • Ensure all existing Trust policies and procedures are adhered to and new ones are implemented as necessary
