The Chief Executive of the Trust is Neil Thwaite. The Chair is Mr Rupert Nichols. The Medical Director is Dr Alice Seabourne and Dr Chris Daley is the Deputy Medical Director.. There is a Leadership development program for new consultants who join the Trust.
This is a full time appointment for a consultant to work in the Cromwell House community mental health team in Salford. This team provides mental health input for patients in the central Salford area.
This post attracts an extra payment of one PA for the first two years of employment for the development of the service.
The Appointee will participate in the consultant on-call rota within Salford. Currently this is a 1 in 17 rota. The on-call would be pro-rata this attracts a category A payment.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will work with the CMHT at Cromwell House as a consultant psychiatrist, providing clinical leadership to the team. This will involve assessing new patients, managing patients on standard and enhanced CPA with severe and enduring mental health conditions and developing appropriate management plans. It would be anticipated that this would be about 4 outpatient clinics per week, plus urgent OP appointments as required. The post has a full time SAS doctor position attached to it
The role includes attending the weekly meeting with the CMHT, taking part in CPA meetings and conducting home visits.
The post holder would be expected to see emergency assessments following a duty assessment (by care co-ordinator rota) and would also be expected to engage in Section 12 MHA work for patients allocated to their teams. The CMHT has the acute assessment role of a crisis team as per the local Acute Care Pathway (ACP) which means that all referrals to secondary services are triaged in community teams and assessed before referral on. The post-holder would provide advice and support to other members of the team, primarily for their own case-load but also for new patient queries and general advice.
They will be involved in undergraduate teaching for medical students from Manchester University Medical School. There will be an opportunity for involvement in problem-based learning and to become an OSCE examiner.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to clinical audit and will be able toparticipate in research.
The post-holder will be professionally accountable to the Lead Consultants (Drs Miller, Earl and Perera) and operationally accountable to Ms Karen Hodgetts who is the Head of Operations.

Qualifications/Registration/e
Essential
- Possession of MBBS/MBChB
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- GMC specialist register for Adult Psychiatry or being within 6 months of obtaining this
- Section 12 (2) Approval under Mental Health Act 1983 or be eligible for approval within 3 months
- Approved clinician status or to be eligible for approval within 3 months.
Desirable
- MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
- Other Postgraduate degrees e.g. MSc, MD, MRCP
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
Experience / Knowledge
Essential
- Good working knowledge of the interface between the MCA and MHA
- Good working knowledge of the interface between the MCA and MHA
Desirable
- Experience in detention of patients under the MHA (1983)
- Experience of writing reports for the Mental Health Review Tribunals.
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
- In "good professional standing for CPD"
