Job summary

We are looking for a midwife to join our 12 month Maternal Mental Health Pilot Service . A total of 75 women experiencing moderate/severe mental health difficulties will be offered psychological interventions to support them with emotional distress associated with loss & trauma directly arising from, or related to, the maternity experience. This role will support families through their patient journey, offering support, advice & midwifery expertise. TYou will collaborative work with wider healthcare & voluntary services, to ensure the delivery of an integrated pathway of care. The post holder will guarantee maternity services are key enablers during the pilot supporting, testing & shaping the system prior to finalising the model.

This opportunity can be applied for on a fixed term 12 month contract or as a secondment from your current NHS employer (subject to agreement for release).

Main duties of the job

As part of a highly specialist team you will support the assessment of bi-psychosocial needs, emotional support and interventions to women a& families who have experience birth loss & trauma. You will support & maintain the development of integrated pathways & collaborative working with services & organisations that support women within the perinatal period.

As this is a pilot service you will be required to collect, analysis and report data that informs service development and shape the strategic direction of clinical support and interventions offered to women experiencing trauma

In this role, you will be required to deliver training across GM to professionals and service who support the whole pathway approach.

  • Communicate with women and their families in a form and manner consistent with their level of understanding, culture, background and preferred ways of communicating
  • Effective management of the service users complex emotional and psychological issues as they arise involving coaching and listening visits.
  • Communicate appropriately within a multidisciplinary team to devise an appropriate plans of care.
    • Multi-disciplinary approach to care and treatment liaison
  • Attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss and screen referrals.
  • Establish integrated pathways within maternity, health visiting, NICU and voluntary sector organisations for example, SPOONS, Finding Rainbows, Dad Matters
  • Collate, analyse and report on information about the quality of service provided to women within the pilot.
    • Promote a service which is trauma informed, inclusive and accessible.
  • Support families to access the MMH service, schedule appointments, have a presence in the clinics and top up with patient centred care in-between formal appointments.
  • Instrumental in the organisation of hospital appointments for families requiring Obstetric/ Gynae consultation (inc. delivery unit tours in cases of tokophobia).
