Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced individual to join an innovative high performing specialist Mental Health Foundation Trust which provides services in the Bolton, Manchester, Salford and Trafford areas of Greater Manchester, as well as specialist forensic services and substance misuse services.

The post holder will report to the Executive Director of Nursing and Governance and will be responsible for developing and implementing the strategy for psychological services, including the further development of the well regarded GMMH psychological services training centre.

Working closely with the Executive Director of Nursing and Governance and Medical Director, the post holder will influence proposed service developments and commissioning discussions so that they are psychologically informed.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will develop and implement the strategy for Psychological Services in GMMH taking into account the overall GMMH Trust strategy and collaborative working with other professions.

Through highly visible leadership and attention to professional standards, the Post Holder will lead a range of duties and responsibilities which will enable the psychological services workforce to deliver leading-edge, evidence based psychological services across the Trust.

The post Holder will lead the GMMH Psychological Services Assurance Structure to ensure specialisms, modalities, service management, external and internal training are enabled to achieve their objectives.

The Post Holder, through negotiation with the Executive Director of Nursing and Governance, will undertake an agreed number of clinical sessions in their role.

Job responsibilities

  • To ensure professional leadership of all psychological practitioners in GMMH which would involve a governance framework of standards of practice, clinical supervision, appraisal and job planning, and continuing professional development.
  • To ensure that arrangements are in place for the systematic governance of psychological practice.
  • To be involved in the strategical development and implementation of aspects of the GMMH well-being strategy for staff in preventative and debrief situations which can occur in delivering high quality care.
  • To lead, develop and implement the long-term strategic development of psychological services including the GMMH psychological services training centre which takes into account the multi-disciplinary aspect of delivering high quality mental health care.
  • To facilitate the psychologically informed voice influences the development of care pathways offered by GMMH.
  • To lead on the development and implementation of GMMH psychological services quality assurance structure.
  • To work professionally and collaboratively with the Associate Medical Director and the Associate Director of Nursing and Governance to enable GMMH services to provide effective multi-disciplinary working producing good clinical outcomes
  • To be a key leader in liaison with local universities, particularly University of Manchester.
  • To lead and facilitate strategic psychological services, workforce planning including planning for recruitment and retention for psychological practitioners in conjunction with HR and OD GMMH team and the Operational divisions within GMMH.
  • In line with the current Trust strategy, in collaboration with the Associate Director of Nursing and Governance, develop the Psychological services annual business plan.
  • Ensure there is a comprehensive system for appraisals and supervision for the Psychological workforce in line with the Trusts Supervision policy.

  • Participate in the GMMH Gold senior manager on call rota.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSC Psychological (or equivalent recognized by the BPS) and Post Graduate Doctorate (or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) in Applied Psychology and registered with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Additional post graduate specialist training in an area of evidence based psychotherapeutic/applied clinical practice.
  • A Management/Leadership Qualification.
