Job summary
The principal role of the post holder will be to work with the Trust's Tobacco Dependency Service team and Tobacco Dependency Project Lead to provide behavioural support and treatment in relation to tobacco smoking for our community service users.
They will support the day to day running of the Community Tobacco Dependency Service to ensure safe, well organised and evidenced based care is offered routinely to all identified smokers and provided to all that access the service. This will include an understanding of working with service users subject to the Mental Health Act and the Mental Capacity Act legislation.
They will support community teams to develop a smokefree culture and to adhere to the Trust wide Smokefree policy, by supporting staff with smoking related issues, providing tobacco dependency related resources and signposting patients and staff to appropriate information and services alongside promoting training.
They will support the delivery of the service key performance and reporting indicators for tobacco dependency, recording and reporting activities and results contributing to achieving all performance indicators, essential standards, and quality outcomes.
Travel is required within the designated service location, including regional travel. The Tobacco Treatment Service will operate five days a week.
Main duties of the job
The advisor will work with the team and mental health staff to provide an evidence-based stop smoking service by delivering:
o 1:1 and group tobacco dependency interventions
o Work in a recognised processes to allow staff and service users to access evidence-based tobacco dependency interventions and record results.
o The systematic identification of the smoking status of all service users within CMHT teams.
o The systematic offering of advice, pharmacotherapy, and behavioural support to all current smokers
o Working with partners to ensure continuity of tobacco dependency support.
o Work in a culture whereby all service users are offered the opportunity to stop smoking and receive support to achieve a quit status.
o Maintain their own continuing professional development and be up to date with all required training.
o Liaison with the service lead to support services users who have recently discharged form In-patient settings to quit.
o Ensuring that service users have access to psychological and provision of pharmacological support to help them to cope with tobacco dependence.
o Act as a subject matter resource, advising services of the most appropriate support they can direct their service users to; based on knowledge of each local community stop smoking service provision.
