Band 6 Occupational Therapist - Oleaster

Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to take up a band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist (OT) within our Male Assertive outreach inpatient unit -Magnolia at the Oleaster. This post also offers a development opportunity for a current experienced band 5 to have a development plan to support with transitioning and developing band 6 skills.

You will be based on Magnolia ward, working as a key member of that team where you will manage, develop and deliver occupational therapy (OT) provision to the ward caseload. You will focus on occupational performance, complex mental health presentations, risk management and evaluating outcomes aligned to personalised care plans. You will implement and facilitate individual and group programmes of clinical intervention in collaboration with Occupational Therapy assistants, activity workers and other professionals for effective recovery and discharge.

Whilst you will be based with a specific ward team, as a member of the wider occupational therapy service there may be occasions when flexibility of cross cover is required to accommodate clinical need. The post holder is expected to work closely with the band 7 Occupational Therapist, Ward Manager, Matron, Lead Occupational Therapist for Acute and Urgent Care, and the ward multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be joining an amazing multi-disciplinary team dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for service users and carers and will champion our philosophy of care; that the service user is at the heart of everything that we do.

You will be involved in a variety of professional roles, demonstrating excellent communicate and professional skills and knowledge to work effectively across the service, with the ability to work on your own initiative and as a committed team player. You will provide leadership within the team to include supporting the day-to-day decision making on the ward, being significantly involved in facilitating supervision, taking forward quality initiatives, implementing change and service developments that support the trust strategy. You will be expected to be flexible in your approach and to welcome the opportunity to build on your existing experience and skills.

This position would be ideal for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist with a vision to develop their career and clinical expertise within an acute mental health environment. The post would require the successful applicant to have experience within a mental health setting and have a sound awareness of risk management in this environment. You will be expected to utilise specialist functional assessments and interventions including the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) which is primarily used within the trust.
