The Tamarind Centre is a medium secure hospital, serving a diverse population of men with complex mental health needs, risk and offending behaviours. We are looking for a 0.6WTE Permanent Practitioner Psychologist to join us at Band 8A or Band 7 on a Trustwide Preceptorship. We are a down to earth, diverse, flexible and creative team and welcome a similar individual whose values and interests align with the department's around social justice, intersectionality, compassion and innovation.
The role offers opportunities to enhance your skills across a range of domains. You will deliver evidence- based therapies (e.g., CBT, DBT, CFT, schema) both in groups and with individuals, and gain experience in facilitating the Life Minus Violence (LMV), high intensity, nationally accredited programme for violence. In combination, we also value insights from practice-based evidence. You will take an active role in supporting the nursing staff through reflective practice and promoting a psychologically informed ward environment. We encourage staff to develop their supervisory and leadership abilities, and these will form part of your core role in supporting assistant psychologists and trainees.
Main duties of the job
Service user involvement and co-production are at the heart of our work. We are currently rolling out trauma informed training across the site for staff and service users. This has been co-produced and co-facilitated with our service users and has been a major milestone for the service. We are passionate about research, innovation and service development, and also encourage staff to integrate their professional interests into their work. Our most recent projects have included examining racial trauma in staff and piloting a culturally informed mental health awareness group. Our interests and ways of working reflect our values in compassionately challenging some of the dominant narratives in systems.

- Satisfactory completion of a British Psychological Society accredited Doctoral Level postgraduate professional training course in clinical/forensic psychology completion of which includes the study of models of psychopathology, psychometric and neuropsychological assessment, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
