An exciting opportunity has arisen in HMP Birmingham Healthcare for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join Birmingham Recovery Team formerly the IDTS (Integrated Drug & Treatment Service).

BRT aims to increase the volume and care and quality of treatment available to prisoners that are assessed as requiring treatment for drugs and alcohol misuse, with particular emphasis on early custody.

Our clinical team consists of non-medical prescribers, staff nurses & healthcare assistants and is a wing based service. As part of an integrated 24 hour Healthcare service we work in collaboration with the Psychosocial team (Cranstoun), Primary Care and Mental Health teams and HMPPS colleagues.

You will also be entitled to an environmental allowance of £1,542per annum whilst working within HMP Birmingham.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality evidence-based nursing care, advice, and support for service users with substance misuse, mental and physical health needs. This will include providing health and substance misuse assessment, medication and care within a Multi-Disciplinary custodial setting.

Completing nursing reviews and observations of patients experiencing withdrawals from drug and alcohol using relevant screening tools such as COWS/CIWA.

Supporting with ACCT (Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork) process and algorithms for fitness to remain in the Care and Separation Unit.

To ensure a high standard of nursing in the application of clinical nursing procedures and treatment including the custody storage and administration of all prescribed medication required for patients' health and wellbeing.

Consulting with internal and external partner agencies to provide continuity of care of Prisoners within HMP Birmingham.

Birmingham Recovery Team provide a 24hour service, shifts include:
