Job summary

BSMHFT is excited to invite applications for a Specialty Doctor post within our established Dementia and Frailty services, based within the Solihull Community Mental health Team for older adults. The post provides an opportunity for career progression for highly experienced specialty doctors.

We are looking for someone with confidence to work autonomously and with and an appreciation of the opportunities and challenges of working within culturally diverse areas of Birmingham. You will be a senior and experienced clinician, with a minimum of at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be within a psychiatry training programme or as a fixed term specialty trainee within psychiatry; or have equivalent experience and competences.

It is essential you should also have had at least one year working within old age psychiatry and evidence of CPD orientated at working with older people.

You will have full registration with the GMC and ideally be approved, or eligible for approval, under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act.

Main duties of the job

The primary role will be to provide senior medical input to assessments and care of community patients aged 65 years and above. You will provide expertise and clinical decision making and oversee the mental and physical health care of patients on our caseload. Supported by the Consultant Psychiatrist and the multidisciplinary team you will develop risk assessments and management plans to facilitate maximum empowerment of the service user and carer in informed choice of treatment interventions.

The post holder for the Solihull Community Mental Health Team for older adults will be based at the Maple Leaf Centre, 2 Maple Leaf Drive, Marston Green, Solihull, B37 7JB.

  • Eligible for approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act
