Job summary

An experienced Mental Health Nursing professional the Deputy Director of professions, Policy and Practice will deputise on delegated duties for the Chief Nursing Officer/ Executive Director of Quality & Safety by;

o Alongside the Associate Director of Quality and Safety/Deputy Chief Nurse supporting the management of the Corporate Nursing Team in the absence of the Chief Nurse/ Director of Quality & Safety.

o Alongside the Associate Director of Quality and Safety/Deputy Chief Nurse, deputising at local, regional and national meetings as requested ensuring the organisation and profession is represented operationally and strategically.

o Providing expert Mental Health professional and operational advice and guidance at a senior level for the Trust and System Partners

o Leading on Professional culture, standards, and effective contemporary practice in Mental Health, Learning Disability and Autism provision. Supporting the development and delivery of the All Age Mental Health Strategy for Trust Service Users and professional staff.

Lead on the delivery of anti-racist practice and foster inclusive professional behaviours and service developments.

Maintain up to date policies, incorporating learning from internal and external reports and stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

Ensure nursing employees work within the standard and framework of NMC, and professional codes of conduct and take remedial action as appropriate;

Provide professional leadership and strategic direction to nursing within the Trust as a means of supporting Nurses to continuously improve the delivery of user and carer centred services, and to comply with the administration of the Mental Health Act;

Support the CNO in leading and motivating the Directorate Nursing and AHP team, driving a culture of continuous development and psychological safety;

Responsible for nursing budget, including budget setting and monitoring of budgets;

Responsibility for ensuring safe practices by nursing employees with respect to medicines management;

Provide professional and clinical advice to nursing and non-nursing colleagues at all levels across BSMHFT in relation to clinical and managerial matters, including disciplinary & conduct issues;

Represent nursing in clinical and corporate governance forums across BSMHFT and externally resolve clinical and corporate problems, including taking a lead where appropriate;

Responsibility for ensuring the delivery and development of safe quality patient care and development of effective clinical practice;

Strive to achieve effective partnerships, integrating social care into the Trust and ensure effective partnerships are developed with Prisons and voluntary organisations
