Acute Inpatient wards - General Adult Psychiatry

BSMHFT is excited to present one of our recently developed progression posts for psychiatrists interested in working towards entry onto the Specialist Register via the CESR route.

The post on offer is to work at the Eden and George ward in Northcroft Hospital as an SAS doctor. This is within a 16-bedded male inpatient ward in George ward and 8-beds in Eden ward .

Main duties of the job

The acute inpatient unit offers excellent opportunity to manage male patients with an acute mental illness that are require hospitalisation . Working with a consultant psychiatrist, the day-to-day clinical management of 24 male patients will be most of the role. There will also be an opportunity to work closely with the locality home treatment team to manage better flow of patients through the acute pathway

About us

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm and an appreciation of the opportunities and challenges of working within culturally diverse areas of Birmingham. You will have sound clinical skills and be approved, or eligible for approval, under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act. You will have full registration with the General Medical Council and experience of psychiatry at a Core Training grade. Excellent communication skills, team working skills and flexibility are essential. You will be encouraged to participate in continuing professional development, audit, research and teaching and partake in the monthly SAS academic programme at our excellent Uffculme training centre in Moseley

  • Recognised medical degree
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
  • Eligible for approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act (1983).
  • Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be within a psychiatry training programme or as a fixed term specialty trainee within psychiatry; or have equivalent experience and competences.
  • Commitment to personal programme of Continuing Professional Development.
  • At least two years' experience of working in psychiatry, including working with people suffering from severe mental illness, preferably in a community setting.
  • Experience of teaching and training at an undergraduate/postgraduate level.
