Band 5 Assistant Psychologist - BIPOLAR SERVICE

This post is for an assistant psychologist to support the delivery of the Cognitive Remediation (CRT)in Bipolar (CRiB2) Trial on behalf of BSMHFT. The postholder will deliver the study intervention with individuals with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and support consent and recruitment to participate.

CRiB2 is a randomised trial assessing the efficacy and mechanisms of CRT compared to treatment as usual. CRT is a psychological therapy which can help improve thinking skills such as memory , concentration, decisionmking and problem solving.

The post-holder will support the recruitment of participants; including provision of both clinical and cognitive assessments; collection of trial (and patient related data) , provision of therapy and liaison with all clinical and academic teams participating in the study.

The post sits within the Bipolar Service , a psychological therapies service. The successful candidate will be supported by staff from this service and will work alongside other assistant psychologists and a research assistant for CRiB 2 at University of Birmingham.

The post is ideal for Psychology graduates entitled to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society; additional post-graduation clinical and/or research experience in mental health is advantageous.

Main duties of the job

Raise awareness of CRT and CRiB2 in BSMHFT

Engage service users, obtaining informed clinical consent

Manage and store the collected information according to ethical requirements and governance protocols

Liaise with the local clinical team and academic colleagues supporting the delivery of the trial, troubleshooting as appropriate

Assist in the delivery and implementation of CRiB 2 adhering to research governance standard operating procedures, policies and guidelines

Data collection and analysis, the production of reports and summaries using IT and statistical programmes

Provide psychological assessment based upon the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of data, including psychological and neuropsychological tests

Deliver the CRiB2 intervention in line with the approved Protocol

Attend meetings to encourage and support the delivery of the trial

Update electronic health records in accordance with local policies to ensure careproviders are aware of the prson's research status
