Job summary

A Fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Mental Health or Learning Disability nurses, to join the 24hr healthcare Team here at HMP Birmingham. We are a NHS service provider and work alongside a number of partnership agencies.

We are expanding services with focused pathways on Secondary mental health, Trauma, Personality Disorder, Dementia care and Learning Disability & Autism.

We have a Band 5 post now available at our HMP Birmingham, which is an Adult Category B prison with a diverse range of nursing needs. HMP Birmingham.

Our service has defined structured Mental Health teams in operation. We have a nursing team that supports the assessment of prisoners within a 24hr healthcare environment, with a 15-bedded assessment service and a Community Mental Health Team that offers similar to those experienced and replicated within the wider community.

We want to employ nurses who have a real understanding for the needs of the prisoner/offender population who can also bring innovation and change to our services. We see these services as a genuine specialism and are offering the opportunity to be part of it.

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of the Deputy Ward Managers, Clinical Team Manager and Service Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation and evaluation of nursing care, for those experience mental health and learning disability & neurodiversity and will have a working knowledge of local and national policies and legislation that govern current service provision. The post holder will be responsible for identifying and contributing to the training needs of others and in the promotion of issues of equality, diversity and rights in accordance with good practice legislation. The post holder will ensure effective communication pathways exist, and that they act within the sphere or responsibility, managing their selves, the team and the clinical area in the absence of the person in charge.

It will be a requirement of all staff to have an understanding of the broad principles of the recovery approach and to incorporate them to provide services that support people's recovery through being holistic and promoting social inclusion, self management, personnel autonomy and independence.

To work in partnership with HMPPS prison staff that support the operation of the healthcare environment.
