Job summary

Are you a mental health professional who would relish an opportunity to focus on providing high quality interventions? Would you like an opportunity to further develop your skills in individual and group psychological intervention for those with severe mental illness? We are looking for a mental health practitioner (with a core training e.g. occupational therapist, mental health nurse, social worker) to join our team.

An opportunity has arisen for a one year , fixed-term position or secondment to the post of Specialist Mental Health Practitioner within the Bipolar Service. Full time or part- time hours can be considered and the post includes some remote working. The role is within a trust-wide, specialist, psychological service for people with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder who are also under BSMHFT's secondary mental health services. You will be delivering the Mood on Track programme .The candidate will need a relevant professional registration and ideally experience working at Band 6 in statutory community mental health services. Experience of working with people with a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder and/or Psychosis and of delivering interventions (such as relapse prevention) would be beneficial.

Main duties of the job

The role involves assessment of those with mood difficulties for suitability for the Mood on Track programme. The main duties are delivery of group and individual interventions and supporting service users and their family members to develop self-management skills. Risk assessment , management and safety planning is a key part of this role.

Candidates should have enthusiasm for and commitment to working with the psychological principles involved in the Mood On Track programme . They will co-deliver group CBT for Bipolar followed by undertaking individual relapse prevention work with service users. Basic knowledge and understanding of cognitive behavioural models and previous experience of early signs work will be advantageous .Committed to recovery principles, the successful applicant will work to a high standard both autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. They will attend and participate in regular MDT meetings. They will work closely with others in the team as well as liaising with other multidisciplinary teams to deliver high quality mental health care within a diverse inner city catchment area where there is high demand on services. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal are necessary as the candidate will be required to form effective working relationships and liaise with colleagues both within and external to the service.
