Anthony Nolan Practitioner Psychologist 1.0wte Band 8b - Stem Cell Transplant / Cancer Psychology Service

An opportunity has arisen for a Practitioner Psychologist to work into the Birmingham Centre for Cellular Therapy and Transplantation (BCCTT), based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital under University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust.

This exciting opportunity provides funding for 3 years initially. The post holder will be required to carry out a three-year evaluation of this post based on audits and data collection and present this to the Trust and Anthony Nolan, along with leading on the development of a business case for substantive funding of the post following the 3 years.

As the team is co-located with the Cancer Psychology Service at UHB, the new post holder will be in the desirable position of being fully embedded within the transplant MDT whilst still working alongside psychology colleagues and playing an active role in the wider department. Both teams are friendly and supportive.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be able to demonstrate a highly developed understanding of the psychological impact of cancer and how pre-existing vulnerabilities may impact upon cancer, as well as being able to adapt your psychological interventions accordingly. The role has a particular emphasis on ward-based bed-side working and skills in being able to offer short-term psychological interventions are therefore particularly valued. You will have experience in working with patients with physical health conditions. You will be working closely with doctors, nurses and allied health professionals to provide high quality care, and you will need strong skills in consultation, supervision and teaching as part of our multidisciplinary teamwork.

This role will require face-to-face work, as well as skills in being able to deliver psychological assessment, interventions and teaching in a variety of formats, including via the telephone and video link.

Essential

  • Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling/Health Psychology. The completion of which includes the study of models of psychopathology, psychometric and neuropsychological assessment, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Registered as a Clinical/Counselling/Health Psychologist with the Health and Care Professionals Council

Desirable

  • Post-doctoral training in two or more highly specialist areas of psychological practice that are relevant in a Clinical Health Psychology setting.
  • Significant management and or leadership training.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience , knowledge, and skills in working with people with physical health conditions.
  • An understanding of the specific needs and difficulties of people with haematological cancers and stem cell transplant.
