Job summary
There is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Clinical/Counselling Psychologist with an interest in perinatal mental health to work within the West Birmingham Perinatal Mental Health Team. This is a permanent, part-time position (6 sessions).
The team comprises an MDT and includes colleagues from psychiatry, nursing, OT, nursery nursing, peer support, midwifery, psychology and admin staff. The team support women with a moderate to severe mental health difficulty in the perinatal period.
We have our own team base in Hockley, Birmingham with access to both admin and clinical space. You will join a supportive and hard working team who greatly value psychology and a large perinatal psychological services team.
The Perinatal Mental Health Service in Birmingham and Solihull consists of four community teams (of which West team is one), an inreach-outreach team as well as the 10 bedded inpatient Mother and Baby Unit at the Barberry and Maternal Mental Health Service who we have close links with.
Over the course of the last several years, Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust have received funding to develop specialist perinatal community mental health teams. There is now continuing expansion under the NHS Long Term Plan to see women up to 2 years postnatally, with a particular emphasis on increased access to a wider range of psychological therapies, including parent-infant interventions, family therapy and offering a partners pathway.
Main duties of the job
The main clinical work undertaken is to provide specialist psychological assessment and intervention for mothers and their babies and families in the community. The role may also involve contributing to the supervision of psychology trainees or psychology assistants working in the community setting. The post holder will act as a member of the team, attend meetings and offer advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to team colleagues.
There are also other opportunties to become part of our city wide group programme and join relevant working groups to continue to support the development of our services and services we work with (such as maternity), for example, considering health inequalities that some of the women we care for face. We are committed to the development of our staff and offer a robust induction programme, regular supervision and training.
We work within a diverse area of Birmingham and are building links with faith based organisations in an attempt to overcome any barriers women may face in accessing our service.
We would consider band 7 applicants with particular interest and/or experience in perinatal mental health.
Please do not hesitate to contact Dr Lucy Murray (Lead Clinical Psychologist) if you would like to discuss the post further.
