Job summary
Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT) have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and highly motivated Deputy Medical Director who will provide strategic, visible, clinical and professional leadership to the BSOL Mental Health Provider Collaborative which went live on 1 April 2023.
Main duties of the job
In this role, the post-holder will work closely and collaboratively with other colleagues and partners in the BSOL system supporting the Executive Medical Director, Executive Director of Operations, Clinical Directors and other leaders within the Provider Collaborative. You will be expected to lead, inform and challenge practice across the BSOL Mental Health Provider Collaborative. You will champion new and innovative ways of working and provide leadership on the medical implications of service reconfiguration, clinical performance and conduct, medical education, research and development, senior doctor appraisal and revalidation across the sector. You will be actively challenging poor performance and provide remedial action plans as required and coaching direct reports, when applicable. You will also carry out audit, policy, service development and research activities and/or programmes and drive the collation of information for audits and inspections, CQC audits and other audits/inspection as required.

Essential
- Medically qualified and currently registered with the GMC as a Consultant
- Substantive experience as a Consultant psychiatrist
Desirable
- Masters Degree or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through any combination of alternative study or employment
Knowledge and Experience

- An excellent understanding of the conditions of employment and current workforce and education issues for medical staff.
- Experience of implementing change management, projects to develop or improve services.
- Extensive knowledge of legislative frameworks as pertains to our service user group.
- Expertise in governance, quality and safety agenda and commitment to the quality improvement agenda.
- Robust knowledge and understanding of governance.
Desirable
- Demonstrable track record of delivering an effective and governing service as a senior clinician.
