Job summary
Coral Ward is an 8-Bedded Female Acute unit within a 30 bedded Blended Secure Service at Ardenleigh. The women's service has undergone a significant period of development over the past two years - which has seen the successful implementation of a two-year NHSE funded pilot to become a Blended Secure Service as well as implementing a Trauma Informed Care model across the service for which we received a nomination from the RCNi in 2020. We are looking to recruit a highly-motivated, committed and passionate nursing leader into the role of Ward Manager.
The post-holder should have a passion for working with Women who have enduring mental health conditions and have experience of working within challenging and complex environments as well as experience within a managerial position.
The post holder will need to provide leadership and mentoring and will act as a positive role model for junior staff in a manner that positively reflects the ethos of the service and the Trust Values. You will be responsible for managing, directing and leading the nursing team - encouraging and creating opportunities for positive change, reduction of inequalities and a drive to maintain and improve the quality of care which is delivered to our service users.
You will be provided with support from an experienced group of senior nursing leaders and other healthcare professionals as well as opportunities for further personal development, access to training and on-site staff wellbeing and support.
Main duties of the job
This role will require you to be able to remain calm when faced with challenges, to have the ability to remain resilient and compassionate. You should have excellent understanding of Trauma Informed Care and how to implement these values within an acute wardsetting. It will be important to have excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for working with women in secure care. You will need to be able to show clear and effective leadership to enable the team to continue to work to high standards meeting the needs of the service users. The role will require you to be present and available to the women and the staff team and to be responsive and reliable. It will also be essential to understand risk management and have the confidence and ability to ensure that care plans are accurate and that the staffing team have the skills to manage complex risk management.
You will be confident in the operational management of thewardincluding KPI requirements ie RTWs, Sickness and Absence, RMS/ADR. You will also oversee and manage the recruitment process for theward.
You will be attached to a clinical team and be expected to also provide confident nursing input into the multi disciplinary teams management of a caseload of patients across the service, both acute and rehab.
