Job summary
We are seeking to recruit a motivated Consultant Psychiatrist to join a mature multi-disciplinary Psychiatric Liaison team in the Good Hope Hospital, Birmingham to provide senior medical input and leadership. Good Hope Hospital (GHH) is a General Hospital (about 300 patient base) in Birmingham under the University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB). The Psychiatric Liaison service itself is provided by the Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT).
You will provide senior medical input and leadership to the GHH Liaison Psychiatry team and be accountable for supporting the provision of psychiatric services through the comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and discharge planning of patients.
You will be responsible for establishing positive communication channels with colleagues from the general hospital and other mental health services, including contributing to the medical teaching programme at GHH. You will be innovative and help to develop services to enhance mental health care amongst patients with physical health problems and be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of clinical governance.
BSMHFT is one of the largest mental health Foundation Trusts in the country, providing mental health services to a culturally and socially-diverse population within Birmingham and Solihull.
Main duties of the job
As part of the job role, you will assess and review patients referred from the GHH Emergency Department or wards to the Psychiatric Liaison team or advise and supervise assessments by other clinicians within your team in a timely manner. You will be responsible for providing ongoing care to patients allocated to you, and hold the responsibility as Responsible Clinician where appropriate.
You will be expected to work as part of the wider medical team across the service for mutual cover arrangements and to contribute to the general adult consultant on-call rota.
