Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Core Skills Trainer- AVERTS to join the Established AVERTS team. The post holder will receive an in-house train the trainer induction programme and will be responsible for the oversight and delivery of the Trusts reduction of restrictive practice training syllabus - AVERTS (Approaches to Violence Through Effective Recognition and Training for Staff). This post is physically demanding as the post holder is required to deliver all aspects of the AVERTS training syllabus that involves moving towards and away from the floor and spending time in a kneeling position, the post-holder will also be involved in reviewing the training syllabus in line with the Restraint Reduction Networks accreditation standards. There will also be admin tasks commensurate with the role. The post holder may also be required to assist in the delivery of other aspects of fundamental training, where full training will be given. The post-holder should be a registered clinician and have an interest in the delivery of quality training and education packages and in particular, the reduction of restrictive practices. The training will be delivered in-house within a large mental health organisation that has a diverse service user population and provides specialist services to the communities of Birmingham and Solihull and the wider Midlands conurbation.

Main duties of the job

The role involves teaching all elements of the AVERTS programme as part of the Trust's fundamental training requirements. This is a physical skills training syllabus alongside theoretical sessions around the reduction of restrictive practices. The role will also include the on-going review and development of the training in line with the Restraint Reduction Networks accreditation standards and to ensure that all training is delivered in accordance with UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Scheme) guidelines. The post- holder will be required to keep their knowledge around the reduction of restrictive practices up to date and to support the wider reducing restrictive practice work undertaken by the Trust's AVERTS Consultants, this will include supporting AVERTS consultants with bespoke training in clinical areas of the organisation. There will also be a requirement to train and deliver other elements of Core Skills training as required by the Trust. This will include but is not limited to ELS (Resus) Training, Clinical Risk and Management (CRAM) and First Aid at Work (FAAW). As part of the probationary period the successful candidate will undertake a course of instruction in order to deliver all aspects of the AVERTS training programme. The successful candidate will be highly motivated registered professional with significant clinical experience of working within mental health services. Some teaching experience would be advantageous for the role.
