Job summary

We are looking for an experienced, driven and passionate registered mental health nurse to join our inpatient area as Deputy Ward Manager, to work on our 8 bedded Female PICU, based at Eden PICU Highcroft.

The applicant will show a keen interest in this challenging field of Psychiatry.

It's important that you have an understanding of multidisciplinary services and the challenges that face people with mental health problems. We want to hire staff that are passionate about mental health, who believe in our recovery model and who will act as advocates for the reduction of stigma in our community. You must have an excellent understanding of safeguarding and how to work within professional boundaries.

Main duties of the job

Our PICU ward supports and cares for some of the most vulnerable service users from our community and offers a highly challenging environment within a fast paced and diverse work setting. PICU is an exciting service to be part of we work within a specialist multi-disciplinary team, delivering high quality, intensive care to patients experiencing acute mental illness. We want our nurses to learn and develop their skills, including working with and supporting clients with severe mental illness with widely varying and complex needs.

Adults in crisis are admitted to the ward and are supported by a large staff team of nurses, doctors, health care assistants and psychiatrists. There is a wide remit for a nursing role within PICU which requires networking and collaborating with numerous internal and external stakeholders.

There is a high level of opportunity to develop as a band 6 nurse, we offer additional training that is specialised to our service giving you risk assessment and risk management skills which are invaluable in the mental health profession.

The post holders will be responsible for clinical leadership and high quality care standards, deputising for the Ward Manager as and when required.
