Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Art Psychotherapist to join us working across Community Services. The successful applicant will join a dynamic and growing team providing art psychotherapy in community mental health services.

The Community Art Psychotherapy team works within the five community Hubs across BSMHFT. This is a newly developed post working across two of our Community Hubs. The successful applicant will initially be based in our Hub in East area with requirement to work across other hub locations. The community art psychotherapy team are part of the wider Arts Psychotherapies Service, a friendly, well-established team of therapists.

This senior role will have a mix of clinical responsibilities and supporting the Principal Art Psychotherapist in delivering the requirements and expectations of the Community Transformation of Mental Health Services. There will be opportunities for supporting and supervising trainees and qualified arts psychotherapists.

There is a strong emphasis placed upon Continuing Professional Development within the Trust with the aim of supporting you to develop you clinical and leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

  • As part of a multidisciplinary team, provide art psychotherapy interventions, individual and group, in community settings and specialist services.
  • To facilitate a highly specialist, multi-level art psychotherapy intervention, (including assessment, formulation, therapeutic intervention, and onward referral/support).
  • Work with service users experiencing complex mental health difficulties as part of a multi-disciplinary package of care, including offering consultations and specialist advice to other professionals and contributing to the initial assessment of service users entering the service and liaising with other colleagues and services where appropriate.
  • To liaise with other professionals and services, make appropriate on-going referrals and develop the links between multiagency services.
  • To contribute to the training of other professions working within these settings.
  • The post-holder will provide clinical supervision to qualified and trainee arts psychotherapists.
  • The post-holder will contribute to the on-going development of an Arts Psychotherapies Service that is cost-effective, culturally appropriate and based best clinical and professional practice and that meets Trust and Directorate objectives, national strategic, and policy guidelines, commissioner requirements and user and carer needs and expectations.
