Job summary
Responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of patient care. Co-ordinate the Nursing team to ensure the effective delivery of care. When delegated to do so; manage the ward in the absence of the Senior Sister / Unit Lead Nurse. Give effective specialist nursing care to the patients on the Cardiology ward. Demonstrate, supervise & lead learners in delivery of high quality Nursing & specialist care. Show commitment to the 6 Cs of Nursing and demonstrate exemplary Nursing practice and national standards for the Nursing, Assessment, Performance Framework( NAPF)

Main duties of the job
Maintain accurate clinical observations of the patients condition invasively and/or non invasively
Co-ordinate the implementation of a treatment plan for individuals diagnosed with coronary heart diseases and other conditions.
Interpret the significance of clinical data e.g. through analysis of presenting signs and symptoms, 12 lead ECG performing and recognition, invasive monitoring (arterial and central), and adjusts / administers prescribed therapy accordingly.
Able to effectively recognise peri-arrest / cardiac arrest situations using ABCDE approach and initiate appropriate therapy e.g. drugs. CPR, transcutaneous pacing.
Work towards NAPF recommendations
Act as a learning resource for pre and post registration staff (nursing, paramedical& rotators from Cath lab &CCU) and provide education about cardiology nursing, policies & procedures.
Take an active role in daily ward rounds, advocating for patient and able to provide reasoned arguments.
Maintain timely patient records by inputting episodes of admission, transfer & discharge, into CERNER & Miyaflow systems
In the absence of the Ward Manager, receive 'messages' and takes appropriate action where possible, ensuring effective 'day to day' running of the unit.
Demonstrate effective communication:-
- daily as shift leader, with bed facilitators and managers,
- when passing on messages, on behalf of the ward team,
- as a link nurse, or when representing the Ward Manager in meetings.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated, highly skilled and knowledgeable Nurse to join the Cardiology directorate as Junior Sister/ Charge Nurse.
There is currently a dedicated 10 bedded Coronary Care Unit and a 20 bedded Cardiology ward; there are two Cardiac Catheter Labs and a Cardiology out-patients department. This is a very exciting time for us as we are also in the process of developing a new Cardiology footprint in which Coronary Care, the Cardiac Ward and Cardiac Services will come together as a new unit .This is expected to be completed by February 2024.
As the Junior Sister/ Charge Nurse you would be responsible for the day to day running of the ward. This involves taking responsibility for the safe staffing of the ward, managing sickness and absence, and coaching and developing junior staff.
Coronary Care Unit is looking for a Junior Sister/ Charge Nurse who can uphold the ethos of the unit whilst ensuring continued development of both staff and service.
